I learned a lot building the vertical stabilizer. With
each new part it seemed there was a new tool I needed to learn how to use. The
hand rivet squeezer was used on the very first part. I quickly learned the value of
using clecos to hold parts together during assembly.
The very first parts were these rudder hinge assemblies.
The spar cap was first constructed for the vertical stabilizer.
Then the skeleton assembly was constructed
Finally the vertical stabilizer skin was attached.
You can see how the clecos hold the skin before riveting.

Nutplates were added with two flush rivets in dimpled holes to receive the screws to attach the leading edge.
This is Ron using the hand rivet squeezer attaching nutplates.
The rudder's skin was attached here, then it was attached to the vertical stabilizer.
